Zuzana Dumková is extraordinarily talented and mature musician, who already has many years of musical experience and knowledge from lots of different genres (as a daughter of composer J. Dumek, she was in touch with music since childhood).
She plays guitar (as a autodidact) since 1980. During 1982-89 gained first professional experiences as a member of Kuhn children choir at Czech and international stages. She sung child roles on the boards of National theatre etc. Since 1989 she studied at the Conservatory of Jaroslav Jezek. In 1991, following her performance, she was invited by the directorate of Copenhagen conservatory to Denmark where she sung in the bigband of percussionist Marilyn Mazur and in jazzcombo of prominent Danish pianist Mette Peterson. This influenced Zuzana´s future musical path.
Practically all musical bodies, in which she played were her own bands, where she functioned as an author and interpret. Since 1987 she performed at folk stages on her own, with her guitar as a songster. During 1990 – 2005 she created about 6 bands (Nirvány, Katchatawa sextet,Z.D.Quintet,Duo Saguitarius,Zuzana Dumková Band,Z.Dumková Trio etc….). The longest and most intensive collaboration is with saxophone player Marcel Bárta.
Since 1996 she gives singing-lessons. She designed curriculum of jazz singing for the Jaroslav Jezek College of Music. Sometimes she makes workshops (Summer Jazz Workshop of Czech Jazz Society in 2003, Prima Season Fest 2004 etc.) Currently she gives private lessons.
Zuzana performes on her own with guitar or in trio with saxophonist Marcel Bárta and trumpet player Oskar Török. New project, in collaboration with drummer and percussionist Radek Němejc and guests (bass player Rastislav Uhrík, bass player Jakub Vejnar, guitar player René Pařez…), is called Zuzana Dumková & Balance.
This formation also plays on the new CD Balance, which was released in autumn 2007. This is an album full of beautiful songs and lyrics, which is practically the outcome of Zuzana’s long musical experience. We are very proud that she decided to entrust us with the release.
