The band Vertigo Quintet was established at the end of 2002 as a project of young musicians, who wanted to play their own music their own way. At the beginning the band played as a quartet, but soon after the foundation they started to play as quintet and it continues up to this day, whereas new energy comes from guest artists of various musical backgrounds. The result is essentially modern jazz, which spreads into several different styles and genres, with a great respect to musical history. The band performs mainly at the Prague jazz club scene, nevertheless twice a year there is a regular tour around Czech Republic and Slovakia and occasional appearances on the Europe jazz festival stages.
Following the release of the debut album “Vertigo Quintet”, the band participated in the jazz competition in Straubing (DE) and won 2. place. The musicians also performed on several international festivals, e.g.: Tomar 2004 (PTG), Regensburg 2005 (DE), Jazz na Ulici 2004, 2005, 2006 (Pilsen, CZE), Prague Jazzový Festival 2005 (Prague, CZE), Film Festival in Karlovy Vary 2006 (Karlovy Vary, CZE), Jazz Goes to Town 2006 (Hradec Králové, CZE), Jazz Fest Brno 2006 (Brno, CZE).
The debut album “Vertigo Quintet” was a big success, according to the media, this author jazz band has no competition on the Czech jazz scene, especially in the perception of jazz as a dynamic, lively genre. Another interesting aspect is that the compositions are written by all members of the band. The tight bond among the musicians can be heard and seen especially at the live performances, where broad scale of rhythms, melodies and emotions is being uncovered.
The debut album “Vertigo Quintet” was awarded with “Anděl Allianz” of Academy of popular music in jazz & blues category, which is Czech equivalent of Grammy Awards.
